Damaged outlets, double power points and new installations

Power points fail while the lights still work

One outlet or several power points can lose power while the lights stay on. The outlets may be on a different circuit, or there may be a fault in the installation. Note which outlets are affected without opening them. Working lights do not confirm that a faulty outlet is safe.

Installing a double power point

Tell us where you want the power point and what you plan to plug in. A nearby outlet does not confirm that the circuit is suitable. We check installation access, cable routes and existing protection before adding or moving a power point.

Power point location and installation quote

For a new or relocated power point, we check the appliances, location and existing circuit. A double power point provides more sockets but does not increase the circuit capacity. Indoor and outdoor installations may need different fittings and access arrangements.

The quote lists outlet replacement separately from any extra wiring, circuit changes or work needed to reach the new position. After repair or installation, we check the relevant outlet and connection. If outlets have failed across several rooms, we may need to investigate the circuit before replacing fittings.

Our price guides cover work during regular service hours and within the stated scope. Your written quote lists attendance, fault finding, materials and the agreed work. We confirm emergency repair charges in the quote.

Power point installation and repair questions

Why can a power point stop working while other outlets still work?

The outlets may be on different circuits, or a fault may affect one connection or part of a circuit. Which outlets have failed helps us investigate, but does not confirm the cause. Do not remove covers or repeatedly reset protection.

Is a warm or discoloured power point a safety concern?
