Lighting installation: service scope

  • Assess flickering lights and repair or replace the agreed fittings.
  • Plan new lighting points, controls and suitable connections after checking the installation.
  • Confirm product supply and compatibility before purchasing a fitting.
  • We list any ceiling access, surface repairs or additional circuit work separately. A lighting installation does not by itself include a whole-house rewire.

Lighting faults, fitting replacement and new installations

LED downlights flicker when dimmed

If downlights flicker when you use the dimmer, tell us which lights are affected and how the flicker changes with the control. The fitting, driver, dimmer or wiring can cause similar symptoms, so we assess the installation before selecting a part to replace.

Replacing a fitting or planning new lighting

For a replacement light, send the model and its intended position. A new lighting position may need a different cable route or controls. We check how you want to use it, the installation access and product compatibility before confirming the work.

Electrical work

Kitchen lighting and renovation wiring

We repair lighting and power points, investigate faults and carry out planned installations. We check the existing connections, fitting positions and controls, then list the work needed in the written quote.

For lighting work, we check the product, position, controls and connections. Repairing an existing fitting and adding a new lighting point can involve different work. See our lighting repair and installation information or switchboard repair and upgrade information to discuss the relevant requirements.

Light fitting compatibility and installation quote

We check the fitting, mounting position and electrical connection for a replacement light or new lighting point. For LEDs, we also assess driver and dimmer compatibility where relevant. Several lights flickering together may involve a shared control or circuit, so we investigate before choosing replacement parts.

The quote lists who supplies the fittings, installation, controls and any extra cable or circuit work. Ceiling access and surface repairs are listed where needed. After the work, we check the relevant lights and controls. If you plan to supply a light, discuss the model before buying so we can check its suitability.

Our price guides cover work during regular service hours and within the stated scope. Your written quote lists attendance, fault finding, materials and the agreed work. We confirm emergency repair charges in the quote.

Lighting installation and repair questions

Why do LED lights flicker when connected to a dimmer?

The lamp, driver and dimmer may be incompatible, or there may be a connection or supply fault. We check the installation before recommending repairs. Do not remove a fitting to investigate it yourself.

Can you repair flickering LED downlights?

Yes. We assess the affected lights and quote for repair or replacement. Tell us whether one light, a room or several circuits are affected, and whether using the dimmer or a large appliance changes the flicker.
